Don't stock up on Ammo

Don't stock up on Ammo. You missed your chance. People are panic buying it now. Prices are high and supplies are low. Don't buy now. I'm not saying don't buy any ammo. A gun without ammo is just an awkward club. (Unless you have a Mosin Nagant, those are awesome clubs.) Buy what you need, but now is not the time to try and salt away 10,000 rounds.

Here's what you stock up on now: rice. Anyone remember a few years back when the word's supply of rice got tight? People were panic buying rice just like they are now squandering money on overpriced ammo.

Most people have forgotten the days of rice shortage panic. Don't be that person. Grain harvests aren't looking particularly good right now. There will be shortages. Price are going to go up. Pick up 50 pounds of rice, gets some dried beans while you are at. Now is the time. Might be your last chance.

Think of me as that guy from 10 years ago who said that maybe you should pick up a few bricks of .22 before prices get crazy. You may or may not have listened to that guy then. Listen to me now. What have you got to lose? Rice keeps well and you're going to eat it sooner or later anyway.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

  1. I have to start pretty much completely over, again.
When I got married and we moved in together I gave away all of my stored food to the guy who moved into my fifth wheel.
The wife says we are going to be moving again in a few months so I am going to hold off the long term stuff until we get settled.
She better make this a good one because I am sick of moving around.
No joke, I have moved over forty times in my life and I am getting too old for that crap anymore.

  2. Very, very, good advice. Ammunition should have been stockpiled years ago. Never thought I'd live to see the day when a brick of .22LR would be on 'sale' for seventy-five dollars. Silly.
    My rice pile is high...

    1. Thanks Stephen! I stopped buying ammo in bulk years ago, but I'm glad I did when it was cheap.

Ammo is nice, but we kinda want to eat every day. This looks like a last chance to get rice cheap.

  3. Great advice. If a person puts themselves in a position where they will blow through 1000s of rounds they are screwed regardless. As a betting man id rather run through 1000 pounds of food than ammo. The odds of survival are better!!!!

  5. Never did care for rice.

    Biscuits and gravy for me.
Corn's OK. Pound it with your hawk. Makes cornbread, best 1:1 with flour. Might as well throw in some bacon.

    Stack ammo.

    1. Have you tried canned bacon? It's pretty good.

    2. I've eaten a lot of canned bacon years ago when it was easily found in stores. Now I can all my own bacon. I can 18 pints at a time putting 3/4 of a pound of bacon in each pint jar. I do not use parchment paper, I just load the jar with bacon. I wipe the rims carefully and I always get a good seal. At my altitude I run the canner at 15 pounds for 90 minutes.

I spoon the bacon into a cast iron skillet and fry. I've got bacon bits and grease for cooking and gravy making.

  6. Old school muzzle guns are still to be had from private sales. Seems folks don't want them as bad as the other boom sticks. I prepped the ground for my three sisters garden yesterday and got my beans seed for 76 cents. I just plant a 15 beans soup mix inna ground, right upside the one fence. works wonders. Pellets and BB's are still cheap, I got a homemade .75 caliber musketoon smooth bore that I use with daisy loads. 1 tablespoon of daisy steel shot in a wax matrix makes it easy to load and deadly to what your shooting at. Works like a glasser safety slug on impact. I have a SHTF load worked up for that gun. 100 grain of black powder with a teaspoon of creamora on top with 000 steel wool for the wad then the shot pellet or slug,. That bad boy will put beeg holes in stuff and then cauterize it. I mix a smidgen of creamora into my priming power too. It never fails to light. I got plenty of beans and rice and I dry or can all the surplus from my gardens. What I need to get serious on is portable water filters.

    1. Get a good water filter and use it. It will keep you healthy.

Buddy of mine uses a couple of cap and ball black powder pistols for defense. They are underrated.
