Many people don't know to scrape a pile of magnesium shavings into a pile on your tinder and shoot some sparks onto it. Instant flame!!MattBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17504997985698408360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1937170202895477126.post-50959544786412574512018-04-09T18:58:28.347-04:002018-04-09T18:58:28.347-04:00Well, I'd better get mine quickly, before they...Well, I'd better get mine quickly, before they go away. Purchased a few more, just to have on hand if they stop making them. It works that way with me - I get to liking something and they stop making them available. Rule of the Universe or something I guess.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1937170202895477126.post-71882062712114188282018-04-09T08:26:37.216-04:002018-04-09T08:26:37.216-04:00Never tried the lighter type but now maybe I will....Never tried the lighter type but now maybe I will.
Sixbearshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15572224383041421400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1937170202895477126.post-60221554263927326792018-04-09T06:53:35.511-04:002018-04-09T06:53:35.511-04:00Also check the metal match lighter, the one with t...Also check the metal match lighter, the one with the striker immersed in lighter fluid, a rubbed against the spark rod on side. One scratch and you get about 20 seconds of a match-like flame. Great for lighting kerosene lanterns, stoves and the like. I wondered how long the fuel would last if left alone and the unit lasted a bit over a year ! Pretty good service I think. I get about 40 lights out of my unit before it begins to sputter out, requiring another filling.

Spark rods will last longer, but they shoot sparks that sometimes require preparation with tinder. I have a couple of ferro rods and PET balls (Petroleum Jelly mixed with cotton balls) works great, but is messy to store.

Good topic - Fire is necessary when camping, even if just a spark.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1937170202895477126.post-17963474034285026232018-04-08T20:19:40.189-04:002018-04-08T20:19:40.189-04:00Being able to make fire is a life saving skill.
