More War?

The administration is laying the groundwork for war against Iran. Today they will be designating Iran’s
Revolutionary Guards
a terrorist organization. So what’s the big deal? In short, as I understand it, that allows the administration a loop hole for going to war. Another Congressional authorization is not needed to fight terrorist organizations.

War monger Pompeo, who did much to get us involved in the Iraq mess is now in a position to advance another foreign war.

So why would we want to go to war with Iran? Darn if I know as our strategic interests are not compelling enough for war. However, Israel would love it if we did their dirty work for them. Netanyahu is very much in favor of US involvement.

When countries encounter major financial troubles and social upset, they often look to foreign adventures as both an economic stimulus and a distraction. There are plenty of early indicators that the United State is in for a serious economic downturn. The underlying problems that caused the 2008 recession are still there. What little reforms that were proposed or implemented have been watered down or eliminated. Multiple economic hazards are in play. That’s a subject for another blog post.

Students of History are aware that once a country goes to war, the outcome is rarely what was planned or expected. Add to that the fact that this country does a terrible job supporting the troops. The government is pretty good at getting enough war material to the front. What their terrible about is taking care of their warriors after the battles are over. About two dozen vets commit suicide every single day and little is done. Even soldiers wounded in battle have to fight for their promised benefits. Right now the best way to support the troops is to keep them out of unnecessary wars.

For me it looks like the country is revving its engines to drive off another cliff and there’s little I can do about it.

  1. I suspect it's more of a poker bluff than any desire for actual war. Trump is definitely a master at playing games with people's minds.

    1. The problem with bluffs is that from time to time they get called.

  2. I agree - no moar war unless the security of the U.S.A. is threatened directly. Way too many 'brush fires' over just political influence.

    1. For too many leaders it's all a game and the troops are just pawns on a chessboard.

  3. Trump(who I voted for) has had it in for Iran since he got into office. He's surrounded himself with neocons who feel the same way about Iran. He is all in with Israel's Netanyahu who feels the same way.

I think a war is likely to break out. Look at the recent warnings about the Persian Gulf. Lots of gas in the water, just need a spark. An accidental spark would work also.

    1. With so many balls in the air odds are good that someone will drop one.

  4. If we were going to war, the Iranians would certainly be my pick for the best target. They're the number one exporter of terrorism around the world these days, and it was the Iranian Revolutionary Guard who ordered Hezbollah to bomb the American Embassey and Marine Base in Beirut back in the early 80's. Worse, when the Iranians get the bomb, which they will in due course if they don't have it already, they'll give the suitcase versions to their acolytes, something even the North Koreans haven't done.

    1. We are a long way from Iran being able to put a bomb in a suitcase. N. Korea can't do it.

It's no secret that Iran supports terrorists, but there were sound diplomatic reasons not to put them on a list.

Diplomacy is not this administrations strong suit.

    2. Six Bears, miniaturization isn't necessary if you have cash. When the Russians went under , their tactical deployment packages were not all accounted for. Just about anybody with the right amount of money could lay hands on one. Iran is long known for using proxies.

I'm not sure why leaving them off the list would have been to our advantage. They're going ahead full speed with their nuclear program, what have we got to lose?

Not being high and mighty, and I hope not pompous. Just my point of view.
