Stimulus Money

Okay . . . so the government’s handing out money. All you anti-socialists stay pure and refuse the cash. What’s that you say? This time it’s different? It’s not really Socialism. Whatever lets you sleep at night.

Personally, I’m not really into ideology.

On the other hand, I’m not sure I’m really going to get anything. It’s that just my natural pessimism coming forward? No . . . well . . . not completely. The Sixbears household is in one of those categories where we don’t have to legally file taxes. There was some sort of happy talk that people like us would eventually get some money, somehow.

Whatever.

Fortunately, my firefighter pension is still coming in. In fact, the state sent me an e-mail stating my pension fund was fine. Maybe I’d feel better about that e-mail if it wasn’t sent every three days or so. If they’d sent the e-mail out once, I’d get the impression they were trying to reassure me. When they sent it out all the time, it looks more like they are trying to reassure themselves.

A certain financial institution sent me an e-mail stating how concerned they were for my health during this crisis. How nice. A careful reading, however, revealed they were concerned that I stay healthy so I can keep making payments. News flash: if I get sick paying off their loan is the least of my concerns. My credit is already in the crapper from the last time I was in hospital so that’s not something that can be held over my head.

Now it might be be an issue if wanted a loan to buy a car. Is anybody buying cars these days? If so, why? It’s not like we can drive anywhere.

Seriously though, I hope the money gets out to those who really need it -like most of the population. We are looking at unemployment higher than during the Great Depression. Something has to be done to keep food on the table.

My lovely wife and I are still financially holding our heads above water. We are fine. Our budget is being helped by the fact we aren’t going anywhere or doing anything.

  1. When you live between the cracks it's also easier to fall between them.
Down here, the pollies are flinging big $$ about too but, like you, we may not be eligible for much. Mrs dweeze has her 2 day a week job but is forced into leave and I am self employed from home. I lost 2 clients last week and a part time job that was just about to start. Still have *some* work coming in and I'm adapting fast. Got enough money in the kitty for a wee while, we always have months worth of food on hand and in the ground and there be tasty critters aplenty around here.
I'm with you, as long as the cash gets to the people. 70% of what they handed out here went straight to the banks and big corporates. Us minions can scrap over the crumbs as per usual.
Call it whatever you want - anything with 'ism' always becomes 'schism'.

    1. The best thing for governments to do is to make sure people can get by. Much easier than sending police in to put down riots.

  2. I'll be VERY surprised if anyone on SS gets any money. They seem to think we're rich already.

    1. My lovely wife is on SS, but I'm not even in that system. Being in just a state plan, I generally fall through the cracks.

    1. I was going to make the same comment. Gas is $1.47 here, but shoot, my tank is full because I've hardly driven for 3 weeks.

  4. We're in a split spot. I'm going to be working more due to this, but my wife just got laid off. She's still in contact with her bosses as they keep her updated. Guess we'll see. Otherwise we're gonna have to get used to being around each other a lot more. At the very least it's an interesting break from our usual routines. Hope you and the Mrs. are well

  5. Well screw you too, you stupid old bastard. I can see you don't do ideologies.. or economics either. Let me help you out: Under capitalism, sometimes you get bread lines. Under socialism, sometimes you get bread. I can see why you'd have problems with that.

As for that thousand bucks - That's actually taxpayer's money. I'll take mine back and if you have a problem with it - go suck a fart.

Finally: the funds that pay your pension just dived by at least 30%. Don't look at the tax payer to make up the shortfall - they are getting laid off. The days of free money for stupid people and union slobs could be over if this thing goes south.

You might want to get off that lofty perch of yours and take an interest in economics and ideologies. You can start be looking up how socialists treat their useful fools.
