Not Just the Weapons

There’s a lot of blather about how Western weapons have turned the tide in Ukraine. I have to agree they’ve been darn effective. Hand held tank killers, better artillery, and precision munitions have turned the tide.

That’s only part of the story.

If the west had done nothing the Ukrainians would still be fighting. Remember, when the invasion started they were busy building Molotov cocktails -as they didn’t have much else. The fight was going to go on due to the will of the people. The fight might have been partisans and slit throats in the dark at this point, but the resistance would have gone on.

Politically Russia lost the war when NATO stood firm. Finland really put the nail in the coffin on that one. Russia did not want NATO on the their border and Finland is right there. Russia never did very well against Finland when it was alone. Check out the History of the Winter War. With the might of NATO behind them it’s all over.

The weapons sent to Ukraine have been put to good use. As soon as better weapons were in their hands they went on the offensive. Given the tools Ukrainians certainly know what to do with them.

However, it’s not just the weapons. It’s the will of a nation to stay independent. When the US left Afghanistan their government had much better weapons than the Taliban. What they didn’t have was the will to use them. Afghanistan is not Ukraine. In their History they were almost never governed by a central government. Tribal ties are more important.

The West should keep supplying Ukraine with the weapons they need. Like their President said, he didn’t need a ride, he needed ammunition. Right now the Russians don’t need ammunition., they need a ride.

  1. Only now, Russia is warning the U.S. that supplying the Ukrainians with longer distance missiles (AMTEK?), this now makes the U.S. a participant in the war which may require measures to punish.

I don't know if Ukraine is vital enough for us to begin a war over. Can anyone explain why our government deems it necessary. We spent a lot of time in other lands, spent a lot of $$$ in those lands and left without securing a victory. Getting involved in yet another war does not sound like a good idea, the U.S. has a lot of issues right here at home..

    1. Yup, it's vital enough. Do you think Putin would have stopped with Ukraine?

    2. History is a fickle teacher. When we pay attention and learn our lessons she goes to another story. If we, as we normally do, repeat lessons unlearned then similar monsters reappear and put us ALL in harms way. It is expensive monetarily as well as socially, but ignoring the lesson has the potential of killing us all. Good points about the home front, however that is not a reason to ignore a monster.

  2. Nobody knows just how long this fracas would have lasted if the west hadn't supplied Ukraine with effective hardware. Maybe they'd still be fighting. Odds are however that without help from the west they'd have folded by now. Western weapons have turned what would likely have been a Russian victory into a stalemate. As for whether or not the US should get involved? Hell...we were involved before Russia invaded. All that's happened is we and NATO have stepped up that involvement. The real question is exactly what will it take for Putin etc. to go off the deep end and up the ante by either attacking a NATO country or use nuclear weapons. That's the biggest concern we should have.

  3. 6 Bears, you were the last I expected to get into this and now the Illegal Immigrant issue.

    Nothing new under the sun.

Proverbs 26: 17Like one who grabs a dog by the ears is a passerby who meddles in a quarrel not his own.

Quite a vivid mind picture grabbing a large dog by the ears. Bad results, eh?

Remember the Maine, Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq and other well known "Truths" Later proven to be wartime propaganda.

Fact checks several well known Democratic "Leaders" children (and some RINOS) are "Still" "Working" in Ukraine getting massive paychecks. Folks like Hunter Biden (10% for the Big Guy) Pelosi's Son, Schumer's son, Romney's son and Clinton's Foundation is STILL getting donations from the Ukraine.

But, YES, let's all suffer the dog bites to our country, our supplies of food, energy (what's your power-heating bill looking like, sir?) MEDICINE (I hope given your telling me your too large to ride a 275 pound rated e-bike and have breathing issues that you don't need medicines past the 90 day supply) as well as the other benefits of a Non-Wartime economy.

But let us suffer for the Victory in the Ukraine. Pelosi's son and Hunte Biden need that money.

    1. The Democrats are quite happy to fight to the last Ukrainian and to the last untermensch American so long as they get their 10 percent.
The sad, sad reality if billions of our dollars going to support a regime many of whose military wear Nazi symbols with pride. Heck even Zelenskys own body guard were photographed wearing the Nazi deaths head emblem.
The greatest generation must be spinning in their graves.
