Guess we still have a Democracy

Okay, okay, it’s actually a representative republic by design but whatever. In reality it’s more of a Corporate Kleptocracy but we cope.

Putting aside semantic details for a bit let’s just take a big deep breath and let it out. All in all the election went off without too many shenanigans. There were incidents here and there but nothing too crazy.

Well, there was that guy at the local polling place who was calling everyone Communists. He got pretty worked up but then starred recognizing people. Then he was all, “but you’re okay, and you’re okay and you too. You are all good people.” Then he sorta wandered off.

Kinda weird, but pretty harmless in the big scheme of things.

Best I can tell people didn’t so much vote for Democrats as against crazy. Republican Governor Sununu summed it up pretty well. He figured the voters thought: policy we can fix later. Crazy we can fix now. He did very well in his reelection. In fact, main stream Republicans did very well -there just weren’t enough of them.

Frankly, I really hope for politics to become boring again. Those guys should quietly do their jobs and keep from flying off the rails.

One can dream.

New Hampshire remains a purple state, neither red nor blue. While Sununu did really well his success had very short coat tails indeed. The Democrats are going back to Washington. Surprisingly Democrats did very well lower down on the ballot in more local races. Pretty unusual for a mid-term election.

Actually, keep an eye on Sununu. He could upset the political calculations in 2024. The press kept asking him about a presidential bid. The guy didn’t say no. He can draw in Independents. Sununu would do very in New Hampshire’s first in the nation primary. That would definitely give him some recognition.

Anyway, enough politics for now. Glad it’s over without the cities catching fire.

  1. Everywhere that the votes took days to count was a place where the left stole multiple electoral races. AZ. NV. GA. Other places like Wisconsin saw the race for office like Governor neck and neck....right up until the INSTANCE a 100K bump in numbers happened...for the D.
Yep...we're still a "democracy"...where the "democrats" steal whatever electoral race they want. And do so with impunity.

    1. Relax Dan, look at the brighter side. When the bus goes into the ditch the DRIVER is to blame.

During the Great Depression the Democrats ran a successful campaign to get Republican Hoover in office so they could sit back and propaganda about homeless shanties were Hoovervilles, a thin slice of Bologna was a Hoover Steak and the old newspaper on the bum sleeping was a Hoover Blanket. The Republicans took the beating for the Great Depression.

The Dems chose to OWN the driver's seat. The basic economics show we are well into a crash, and they are in the Driver's seat.

In the REAL WORLD (tm) Schadenfreude such is Foolish. ALL of us will suffer in various ways as prices and availability of fuel and food comes up as too expensive for much of Americans. The RICH will do well as they always do in times "O Troubles".

Until the democracy of the French Revolution reduces the Rich to the arms of Madam Guillotine, that is.

Hungry, cold and in the dark people get "excitable".

From Wikipedia Schadenfreude is the experience of pleasure, joy, self-satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another. It is a borrowed word from German, with no direct translation, that originated in the 18th century.

Protect your family, got lots of firewood (and HOPE that like Vt they don't outlaw wood burning) food and ability to keep your home repaired.

    2. Do you really care who was driving the bus when it crashes and burns? Smart people prefer the bus to stay on the road..... When the dust settles NOBODY will care who caused the crash. The problem with the coming crash, which is likely unavoidable now is the number of people who will die. And most of those won't be the people who deserve to die.

    3. Dan you're yelling at the sky again.

WHAT Smart people? You mean the ones that voted FOR their college debts canceled to be FOOLED AGAIN?

The Folks that voted against Boldoc because of a 15 second ad about canceling social security when the REST OF THE STORY was ignored about returning our inputs so we can invest them as SS is BUSTED Broke? They got FOOLED again.

There is NOTHING you and I can do to avoid the major economic shitstorm about to crash this bus. Reality IS.

If you spend your time fretting about the BIG Circles of politics and such you've wasted time you could be preparing for what happens in the little circles that we CAN Affect. You know food and firewood and developing trusted friends to cover our backs.

Maggie got over 1100 votes from a NH town with a population of just over 600 people. TOTAL Population of 600 including children. Boldoc got 194 votes too. Check out Granite Grok for details if you want.

SO WHAT, me I'm splitting firewood this afternoon.

  2. Kleptocracy indeed. Get elected with other people's money (not that they EXPECT something back when you WIN, need I put a sarc here?) get a modest salary with enormous living expenses of housing in District of Criminals as well as your own home s (yes plural) around lake Winnie and Governers Island and be a Millionaire in a few years. Husbands' road paving company gets some 90% of all work in NH. Nothing curious about that eh?

    Pretty sweet.

Of Course, they CARE about us little people.

  3. i find it odd that no one, including yourself, noticed the rep. governors elected by landslide while their senate seats to dems by the same landslide. so you're all those "voters" loved the republican gov, but then broke from the party to vote dem senators? no shenanigans indeed.

    1. I know NH has a long history of splitting ballots. Nothing unusual there. Parties aren't all that strong here. The number of people who claim Independent is huge.

  4. When we get stuck remembering the past we forget about that which is right in front of us. No burning cities, I had a whole bag of marshmallows. They outlawed burning wood in VT? I don't believe you.

  5. John, they did indeed try to pass such laws in Burlington VT and statewide in 2019. Didn't pass, yet it continues to show up for "Clean Air regulations and Save the Planet".

California and Oregon also tried the same sort of laws. When only ONE Party controls such laws can indeed become reality pretty fast.

It's not about saving anything, it's about control.
