Granddad again!

My oldest daughter and her husband just had a son. He joins his 4 year old sister. That makes grandchild number five for me. A road trip will soon be in order.

My lovely wife and I married at 20 and had kids right off. It was and is nice to be young enough to be able to do things with the little ones. A couple days ago I was sailing with my oldest granddaughter who's 6. That's old enough to help set up the jib sail. She also did a fine job on the tiller as I went forward to drop anchor.

I was lucky to be able to spend time with my grandparents when I was growing up. I only lost my first grandparent when I was 16. He was 75. The rest got to meet their great grandchildren. It makes me want to take better care of myself. All those little people are fun. Grandparents can get away with things that the parents never can.

Congratulations Jess & Matt. Your son will grow up thinking all the 4th of July celebrations are for him.

  1. Congratulations Sixbears. I'm sure you and your lovely wife will be wonderful grandparents. May you have many years to enjoy the little people as they grow. You will have a great opportunity to teach them things of value and you will do it well. That I know...

  5. That is way cool. My wife and I married in our mid 30s and started our family about 3 years later. Your kids are lucky - only one of my two children met my MIL. Both My Dad and my wife's had previously passed away. Only Mom is left but she definitely pulls her weight for the missing.

    Grandparents rule!

    1. There's a lot to be said for starting a family later -more mature, financially stable, and all that. However, the clock is running for all of us. Glad mom is there for you.

  7. Congratulations!!!! Glad mom and baby are doing good. The best part of being a grndparent to me is you get to spend time doing the things with the kids you never had time or the extra money to do when their parents were little.Plus you get to return them to mom and dad when your done :].His Birthday is going to cost you a fortune in fireworks in a few years

    1. I'm glad I did the things I did with my kids, even when money was tight. Hope to be there for the grandkids. I'm having a good time with all the little ones.
