Suddenly, Boston

A friend's son had some job opportunities come together in the Boston area at the same time a buddy needed a roommate. I got a call on the off chance I could help move the kid. Sure, why not?

It was a long day, but we made it happen. The van burned about 30 gallons of waste veggie oil for the trip. That could have been $120 in diesel as opposed to free veggie. That's one more factor in making the move possible. Nobody has much extra money these day.

Boston driving has never been my favorite thing: narrow roads, one way streets, and traffic signs that are only there to confuse visitors. All the drivers are survivors of a massive demolition derby and have no fear of death.

Later that evening, driving on rural roads, I had to slam on the brakes to avoid a deer. Talk about varied driving hazards. I got in around 1:30 a. m..

  3. I, too, prefer the country roads, deer hasards, dead skunks, and all.

  4. OMG...I know exactly what you mean about those roads. The Marines injury occurred in Worcester near Boston. I had to take a cab every day from my hotel to the hospital. I just slid down in the back seat, closed my eyes and did not open them until I knew I was at the hospital.

    1. Boston's an old city for America and I guess the roads were designed for horses, not cars. That doesn't slow down Boston drivers at all.

  5. My daughter our only child had a friend she really liked in Wicked Boston, she hated the traffic even in cabs..She said the people are nuts the way they drive and when a person rides a bike they take their lives in their hands at the risk of being killed by Bostonians rushing here and there, that combined with the ridiculous rates of even in a hotel, no thank you..she hears from him often when he goes to NYC and sees her but she could never ever live there, we are on the west coast and my only child has to travel to LA a lot but she always says it is nothing compared to those Wicked crap roads and streets in Bean town..no it is tame compared to Bean town..Your good Karma will bode you well in any type of travality, most people won't help anyone at all, the further the West you get this is what people say all the time, it ain't my problem and oh, hell well...ciao!

  6. Now when I say West I don't mean California at all or Washington state where we live, but OREGON forgettabout it!!!!!!!!!! Tiny state with assbackward people really, beautiful but ignorant prejudiced people, I had to live there in foster homes with my sibling brother and sister they were criminals and took our berry picking money, for real, they got their Karma and died painful demises young, even their kids did not respect or love them, I avoid that god-forsaken state at all costs, it is green and plush and lovely, but no jobs and lots of indifferent human beings who spent millions or maybe it is billions on the affordable care act to Oracle for it to never work they did it twice, poor people really suffer there and no one can eat the beauty of the state, they don't fund public schools and now they want to take away pensions from public employees who get subwages to begin with NO THANK YOU..California I was born there went to college there and worked when I was 18 everyone was nice to me, cause most people are from some place else..Washington state is progressive and lovely, I think more beautiful than God-forsaken Oregon, our laws are enforceable & they feed the poor and their are jobs here..just saying!!!!!!!!

    1. Okay then . . . Oregon. Never been.

The difference between Boston and NYC is that NYC looks like there was an actual plan to the city, at least in parts. Boston is chaos at its finest.
