Side Panels

These are the side panels of my Ooze Goose boat build.

The one on the ground on the right is mostly complete. The one on the left is “in progress.”

The rain was just starting as this photo was taken. Everything is now wrapped up in that blue and silver tarp.

Notice my sophisticated boat yard. It's my yard . . . and that's my boat project, so -boat yard.

The last of my deck plates came in from West Marine. The boat will have three water tight compartments: two under the seats, and one between the lazarette and the transom. 8” deck plates will allow access into the compartments.

Two 6” clear deck plates will be used as cabin windows. They will be installed with permanent bug screens and will be able to be opened from inside the cabin.

So far I've built the side panels, a front and rear transom, cabin bulkhead, and a lazarette. The next step is to fit them all together and then the bottom can be attached. By then, passersby should be able to see I'm building a boat without having to ask.

Now all I need is a few breaks in the weather . . .

  1. Sweet! I'd like to build something like that in the 20 foot range to go gunkholing in the Laguna. Man what a fun weekend that would be, sail down the King Ranch shoreline, anchor up, break out some Captain Morgan and wet a line for some speckled trout fish tacos!

    1. Why don't you? I know, I know -time, money and all that. Something like this in 20 ft and you wouldn't want to every go home. It would be home.

    1. Joel has a huge project on his hands and is doing mighty fine work. I'm just dubbing around. That's the thing with small boats, it's something you canp poke around with when you've got an hour or two.

    1. It should start to look like a boat soon. Spammers have been hitting me heavy, but I remove them as soon as I see them.

    1. 100% chance of rain the next couple of days, but had other things to do anyway. Will keep everyone posted on the boat's progress.

  7. Awesome project Sixbears! Will you being taking it to Florida next winter or is it for having fun around home? Maybe you've already mentioned this, I have not been keeping up on posts due to time constraints. (Like you said once before, "those of us in colder climates spend three seasons a year preparing for winter".)
