Reorganizing

There's nothing too dramatic going on right now. Since we've been back home we've been reconnecting with people whom we haven't seen all winter. It's surprising how much can change in just a few months.

One of the ideas my lovely wife and I kicked around was maybe spending next winter home in New Hampshire. However, after seeing the effects of last winter it doesn't look like a very good idea. Too many people look like trauma survivors. Even folks who normally enjoy winter found it tough. Too many sub zero days with high winds.

Monday the day started at 30 degrees but by shortly after lunch it had climbed over 80. Kinda hard to know how to dress before leaving the house. We also had strong dry winds that kept fire departments chasing brush fires. From snow covered ground to brush fires in a little over a week.

We are checking out vehicles, looking for a replacement for my lovely wife's car. One day we even checked out a couple old Mercedes Benz diesels from the early 80s. I've owned two of them in the past. They are very easy to convert to run on waste vegetable oil. One looked pretty beat. Another looked great -until I saw it had been hastily repainted. That set off alarm bells. They were selling it for a high price like it was a gently used car, but I suspect the paint job might have covered up some hard miles.

Later in the week we are going to connect with friend who works at a big dealership. Maybe he'll be able to find us something interesting.

We've been so busy since we got home we have yet to fully unload the van. Other things keep intruding on our time.

    1. We do keep a basic bug out load in the van. Part of the problem has been sorting out what should stay and what should go in the house.

  3. An diesel vehicles have seen horror stories about burning vegetable oils. Destruction of VW engines after short miles. Do you use a extreme quality filter system, water separator, preheater?

  5. We went to the Washington coast, it was sunshine and lovely days, we came home it was dadblasted hot as could be, I am glad the gal who is in vet school came and watched our older cats, we only have two but she said it got to be 81 each day we were gone, they would have died of dehydration even though we have 3 bowls of water, I got a water dish that circulates the water and keeps it cool so they would not ever pass out or away from the lack of hydration, we are in for a big drought here, the shore was lovely but inland where we live oh, my goodness sakes alive, we are getting after 37 years our windows, pario door and insulation soon. plus we are getting somekind of efficient air conditioning unit we have a west exposure kitchen we will be bbq'ing it and eating in our patio after the sun dies down all the days long or I will make salads early and sandwiches and we will go to a place that will be shady and cool for most of the day and has waterfalls..We are not anticipating this soon to be huge and long days of a drought!!!!

  6. I meant to say a patio door all energy efficient my hubs and the fellow who sells them will install them, saved up for 37 years, the insulation will make a big difference, wished we would have gotten them years ago could not afford it with college for the hubs, and our only child and life itself..we do what we can when we can..electricity is expensive but due to the heat we got the biggest refund on our monthly pay for our electric ever given so we know the summer and fall maybe all the way to December will be a scorcher and we are getting ready, we never do anything in our kitchen the largest room no less in our tiny house in the afternoon to nearly 10 at night but the patio door can be opened brand new soon.we are thrilled and GRATEFUL...ciao

  7. You are missed by all of us up here while you're gone on your winter adventures, but you and the Mrs. should still go on those southern adventures annually, because I can absolutely see how good those road trips are for you guys
