New laws just came into effect in Florida. They have laws that affect both documented and undocumented immigrants. People no longer feel welcome or safe in Florida. They are leaving in droves. There’s already regret from members of the business community that they will not have enough workers.
I hope at least some of them move to New Hampshire. Currently our unemployment is at 1.8%. In anyone’s book that’s a labor shortage.
Would I want “those people” as neighbors?
Heck yes!
When I was in in Florida the vast majority of my interactions with “that community” were highly positive. My car broke down in a “rough” neighborhood outside of Miami. A bunch of locals helped me fix the car and only one of them spoke much English at all. They were a really nice bunch of guys.
Then there was the time the motor on our sailboat died and the boat was being sucked out of the marina and out to sea. We were towed back by Hispanic fishermen. They wouldn’t even take any money for their efforts.
Those are just two examples. There were many more. I don’t look at people as documented or undocumented. They are just people. Some politicians have forgotten their humanity.

I foresee a huge shortage of farm labor. Look for much higher prices in groceries.
ReplyDeleteMaybe all the cultists will get jobs picking tomatoes ? ROTFLOL
I agree with you Spud. Not laughing at it because I've seen this show before.
DeleteSadly because of the Iron law of unintended consequences I am sadly looking forward to fixed income folks and retirees to again like the high inflation 79-80"s making the hard decisions between eating, paying their rent and medications.
In the social sciences, unintended consequences (sometimes unanticipated consequences or unforeseen consequences) are outcomes of a purposeful action that are not intended or foreseen.
An example of unintended consequences is inviting in 10's of thousands of non-English speaking people to NH without having housing and schoolteachers available to teach English as a second language.
I'm SURE (need I add a sarc tag here) that WILL NOT Raise the Taxes suddenly and displace already 10's of thousands of near poor already in NH.
Going to get ugly. Hunger, displacement, loss of jobs to folks that WILL WORK Cheaper will ensure the many deer hunters in NH to get busy.
Hunting wiped out just about all game during the depression. Even groundhogs were in short supply.
DeleteOptimistic as always :-) I do enjoy your viewpoint.
DeleteThere are good people, not so good people and plain not good neighbors' people in all groups.
ReplyDeleteYou and I have been blessed more than a few times with good people.
I've a few scars from not so nice people but then again, I didn't live my whole life in nice NH. My last decade or so I've been here has been most peaceful and restful aside from the occasional young black bear wandering across my porch.
I do feel there is more than a low unemployment rate issue in NH. It's that little thing called lack of affordable housing and WINTER here in NH.
I help in the local food bank and homeless shelter and can assure you we don't have any reserves to handle more needy people.
I'll ask how many of our local teachers are qualified to teach English as a Second Language in our area.
But take heart 6 Bears! This is your time to SHINE!! I bet you have a Facebook account?
Just post that 6 Bears is opening his domicile and heart to any undocumented family coming in as refugees from that FL law.
Lead by example, friend! I'm sure you can like NYC's Mayor "Offer" the Gracie Mansion to house undocumented as to inspire others to open their hearts and homes to the poor long suffering undocumented.
How much did you bet on that Facebook account? I don't have one. Social media is poison.
DeleteGood to hear, that way you cannot advertise to those poor undocumented you've a heart of Gold and open arms for their needs.
DeleteSorry buddy if your inviting 3rd world in I expect you personally to be the solution to the problems that WILL OCCUR.
It's called Responsibilities for your actions and statements. Weird eh?
The only people leaving in droves are those who cannot or will not abide by the law. Floridas population and tax revenue is increasing, unlike California or NYS....
ReplyDeleteBecause it's a bad law?
DeleteJust so you know, Ron's not playing very well here in NH.
6 Bears maybe in your circle of friends he's not playing well.
ReplyDeleteI just had a morning coffee with my buddies with the Electric Co-Op Linemen. About an even dozen+ of them coming and going to my free coffee Sunday.
You know the fellows that go out in all sorts of weather to make sure YOURS and Mine electricity gets restored?
They LOVE the new Law of De Santis. I brought out my smart phone and showed them your comments this am.
Much laughter. Maybe later some might comment here about it.
A dozen is not a majority. Be careful whom you're chuckling about. Pole jocks get pain damn good for the job they do. He's right De Santis is not doing well in NH. He's 28 points behind Capt. Suntan. Neither are acceptable candidates for the office.
DeleteJohn with respect for my elder just how many people do you really see and have coffee within the frozen north?
DeleteNot internet chatter, actual we have discussions about real life things like family sickness and such.
Sad discussions about the not a vaxx and medical interventions to reduce the side effect stuff. Yes, overseas some Doctors and Media are allowed to talk against Big Pharma.
You know folks you'd be invited to the funeral of family members friends.
Do you work with the homeless and food bank? Have any real police and Sherriff connections? Are you active in the School Boards? Our school board members learned we voted them in and we vote them out. They don't do the "Call the police in my area".
Between the half dozen of my trusted friends, we seem to be well known in all these civic type activities.
I wish we had more openly liberals like yourself that actually would help with these activities. But they are too busy they often tell us.
So why the "Be careful whom you're chuckling about" oh warrior?
Most of my friends are warriors also. But they would be kind to a target until it was close for the knife. Just like when we butcher cattle and rabbits. You don't scare them first.
I'm in for a light workout. This after all is how I make my living. I also deal with death and dying everyday. These conversations are ones I have with my wife on a daily basis, as she may not be with me much longer. I have more connections with badged individuals than I should admit. This blog, and my own, are as close to internet chatter I get. I delegate myself to a few minutes on line a day. I tend to trudge around a dojo floor the rest of the time. Honestly if I shuffled off this mortal coil I can count the number of folks on one hand that would bother showing up to the festivities. I've got a few pins on a shirt somewhere, that's about as important as it gets. Still, you have no idea, and I say this respectfully, who I am or anyone else on the other end of a key board is. The Warrior part of my name, is professional. It's the name of my business. Or could have been my wrestling moniker, I'm old and can't remember trivial details. 80)
