  1. 6 Bears do you still have any of your fireman working days pay stubs or tax returns?

Have you ever added up all your Union dues?

Did the Union make sure you got a good retirement and health care package?

Was those dues a good investment?

    If so congrats.

When the Union folks tried to unionize our hospital I asked those questions and if we would ever ABANDON patients under our care in a strike?

Sort of like if Firemen on strike refusing to respond to a house fire.

    Just curious

    1. That sounds like a great story.

      Care to elaborate?

    2. In short. The union pushed very hard on safety issues. When I did get hurt I would never have gotten my full pension without the good union lawyer. My case set a precedent so they threw everything against me.

    3. Best example I've ever heard about a union helping a union member.

      Thanks

  3. I have worked in union shops and nonunion shops as a blue collar worker and in a union shop as a manager. Unions are necessary. The contracts tend to limit favoritism and unfair pay.

The union shop I was a manager in was unionized a few years before I hired on. The VP-Production admitted to me that company mismanagement brought the union in. As he said, "we did it to ourselves."

    1. Poor management does indeed encourage unions. Our hospital was visited by union officials but we voted no as our leadership was responsive to our needs.
