Plans still up in the air

By this time last year I was already camping in Florida. It had been a cold snowy trip down most of the east coast. Northern Florida had some pretty cold nights too. After a couple weeks my lovely wife and I decided to go all the way down to the Keys for a bit.

Of course, the water supply line to the house had frozen so we were motivated to leave the house behind. This year my plan B emergency insulation job has keep the water flowing.

So what's keeping us up north now? There are a few things. My niece has been living with us since the spring. However, she's made a lot of progress getting her life back on track. She should hear if she's got a new apartment soon.

The big thing holding us back had been my debilitating leg infection. It continues to heal, but is still prone to swelling issues. Last time that was helped along by a few visits to a really good acupuncturist. I've made an appointment to see him early next week. Maybe in a couple weeks I'll be in better shape for long drives.

There have been some screwy bank issues. Being local sure made it a lot easier to sort out. For example, I'd still be waiting for the forms to file a fraud claim on my debit card. Not only was I able to file it immediately at the local branch, the funds have been returned to my account. We had another incident happen today. My lovely wife got an e-mail claiming to be from one of our nation wide credit card accounts. They said we had to click on the link to sort out a fraud issue. If you get one of those e-mails, never click on the provided link. Instead, do what I did. Log into your account directly. After doing that I discovered there was no problem at all. Close examination of the provided e-mail link showed it to not look all that official.

After the third financial screw up in two weeks I must admit to feeling a bit paranoid.

Speaking of paranoid, the whole country feels pretty unsettled to me right now. I just have a bad feeling, and I trust my feelings. It also feels good to be available for friends and family deeply affected by the government shut down. There are households where both adults are not getting paid. Let's see what happens when the prison guards stop coming into work.

Hopefully, things well be a lot more settled in a few weeks. Time will tell. If it isn't, we are well set up here in the Great North Woods.

  1. What amazes me, is that most are unaware that a problem even exists to be paranoid about.

  2. We've been a REPUBLIC for 200+ years. Most people don't know what that is. I'm amazed we've lasted this long. -Momlady

    1. We've come back from the brink before. I'm not giving up hope, but not closing my eyes either.

  3. Yesterday I had to go to the bank myself. my debit card had been disabled by fraud prevention. they didn't get any money it was stopped but my card was terminated. Explains my trouble with an amazon order. The phone # on file was 9 years old.

    1. At least you didn't lose any money. I got a past due notice from my Vonage account. It had the canceled debit card for payment. Sorted it out, but it was one more annoyance.

  4. Sad to say the cure for our country does hurt the little man. I feel that this shutdown, which does not fund foreign aid that politicians are asking for, in particular, is an important key that many people are missing. Ask the question, who audits this aid? Who does it really go to? How much aid do we give compared to other countries?Who is asking for this aid? What politicians are involved with the acquisition of this aid? Could it be that this is where politicians get their bank accounts padded from? The people of the US are so generous we don't stop to think that we may very well be taken advantage of. Kinda like the spam email your wife got. So many questions. I hope we get the truth soon.

    1. The little guy is always promised pain now and relief later. Notice that it's the opposite with the rich, and large corporations?

All of my daughters and their families are in positions to give up on waiting. They have passports, have traveled Internationally and speak other languages. They've been promised good jobs and lives in other countries. If I have to travel to other countries to visit my grandkids, I'm going to be really put out.
