Setback. Travel?

Just when I thought my leg was about to get better, things took a turn for the worse. This on-going leg infection issue is getting really really old. Today it looks better than yesterday. I hope this is only a temporary issue. In case it’s not, I made an appointment with an actual real doctor -not a PA or a nurse. He’s so busy that I can’t see him until the end of the month. If my leg is looking much better by then I can always cancel.

Part of the problem may be that the weather has been too crappy to get much walking in. My lungs can’t handle the bitter cold we’ve been having so that keeps me mostly inside. Ice covered roads haven’t help much either. It might be that I just pushed myself too much as I was getting better. There’s so much I want to catch up with.

If I have to see the doctor I’ll have decisions to make. Maybe what I really need is to go camping in a warm climate for a few months. That way I’d get some decent exercise and sunshine. Never underestimate the power of sunshine. At any rate, I’m determined to get completely better. This constant recurring pain wears me down.

My niece was able to find a nice affordable apartment in town so we could shut the house down for a few months. We were more than happy to help her get back on her feet after she moved out of her boyfriend’s place. She now has an income and a place to live. Even her art has improved a lot. My lovely wife and I are glad we were able to there for her. That’s what family does. Still, it is nice to have her on her own.

On the bright side my water line has not frozen again since the small heater was put next to the entrance line. It’s going to cost a few dollars in electricity, but it’s worth it. We’ve had plenty of subzero temperatures to test it out since then. That’s one less thing to stress over.

  1. I never fully got rid of my cellulitis until I spent 5 days on an IV under an infection specialist. Doctors are deathly afraid to give you enough meds to get rid of ANYTHING!

  2. Sorry to hear about the leg. Would a sun lamp help? And do you have any stairs? Hope the problem resolves quickly. - Momlady

    1. It does seem to be healing again but swelling is an issue still. I have to keep my foot elevated all the time.

  3. Sounds like you’ve identified all the issues you have with living at home during the winter, especially your health and lungs. Hard but simple decisions need to be made such as, get out of town for the winter, every winter! Buy a van or an older conversion van (raised roof) and convert it to a full time camper van. During the summer it can be your single do everything transportation and for the winter get you, the wife and ‘O’Day to Florida or Texas coast.

    1. That's a good plan. My lovely wife and I are working out the details on what we want to do and how we'll do it.

  4. Know your lungs may not stand it but tea tree oil will kill infections mix with carrier oil and test on inner arm to eye if you're sensitive. Do not breathe the fumes try and you may be healed quickly

    1. I've used it and had success in the past, but tea tree doesn't seem to touch it this time. Manuka honey has been very effective.

  5. Have you tried vitamin C? It won't harm you, and you know stop increasing amount by when you reach bowel tolerance, Internet has a lot of info on it. You also need other vitamins, few of us get enough in our food. Vit D we get mostly from sunlight, only a few foods have much. Internet and your local library have tons of info.

    1. Maybe I should add more C to my diet. Not a bad idea at all. Like you say, can't hurt.
