Like it or not

This is going to tick off a lot of people but this is how I see the election going down. 

It almost doesn’t matter who the Democrats run against Trump. The Democrat is going to win it. 

If you are in the Trump bubble you won’t see it. He has a solid core group of people who’ll vote for him no matter what. They are also very vocal. They make so much noise that the Trump crowd seems bigger than it is. 

There are more people who will not vote for Trump no matter what. That ranges from never Trumper Republicans to Bernie Sanders liberals. Heck, some folks just won’t vote for a convicted felon. 

Expect a lot of right wing election denial in November, but there will be a Democrat President come January. 

Do what you want with this info, but be aware this is not an invite for a debate. If you really want to live in a country run by an authoritarian I hear Russia has a labor shortage.

Let's invade Colorado

The United States makes a big deal about bringing Democracy to the rest of the world. The Republicans decided that the good folks of Colorado don't have a say in nominating a presidential candidate. That blatant disregard for the will of the people is just the sort of excuse the US uses to invade other countries.

Of course, the Democrats aren't doing much better. Just look at the states where Bernie wins the state but Hillery gets most of the delegates.

Personally, I think this year is a major turning point in American politics. It has never been clearer that the system is rigged. Outsiders who upset the established order are not only unwelcome, they are locked out. If a billionaire can't get a fair shake, just think how little they care for the average Joe.

Trump and Bernie aren't even really that far outside of the mainstream. Trump is part of the 1% business class. He's exactly the sort of person who gravitates to the Republicans as he shares most of their interests. Bernie isn't throwing Molotov cocktails, he's working within the system.

Love or hate the outsider candidates, the system is supposed to be open to everyone. It hasn't been for sometime, but now it's blatantly obvious to everyone. The big question is where do we go from here? The big thing to remember is that the two party system is not part of the Constitution. It's one of those things that developed over time. Political parties that lost touch with their people have disappeared before.

Looks like this might be the year the parties really start to unravel. It's both a time of opportunity and danger. Things could get better or they could actually get worse. Interesting times.

Collapsitarian

The political season is heating up. I’m getting those phone calls from the political parties. They are all in tither about if I’m voting Democrat or Republican this fall.

I think I’m going to start telling them I’m voting Collapsitarian. The system won’t get reformed until it totally collapses. Maybe I should vote for the one most likely to collapse the system fastest.

That still makes it a hard choice. Both of them have proven track records of supporting the policies that will bring on collapse. Nobody’s looking to put the bankers who got us into this financial mess in jail. It’s clear that they are above the law. Nobody wants to untangle ourselves from foreign wars. There is no candidate who’ll really look out for the 99%.

The last election proved to me that the president is a prisoner of the White House. Obama and Bush pretty much followed the same policies. Sure, there was some tweaking around the edges, but nobody is willing to strike at the root of our problems. As long as big money controls the process it won’t change. They own both major parties.

For the record, I’m registered in New Hampshire as an Independent. We are largest voting block in the state. It drives the major parties nuts trying to figure out who we’ll vote for. I’m happy to contribute to their confusion.

I will vote in the election, but only because the local politicians really do have direct impact on my life. The Selectman who can change my property tax and land use regulations is an important choice. Big money doesn’t have quite the same sway with the local positions. It’s still possible for a person of character to win, spending no more money on the campaign than the small registration fee. Everyone knows everyone in a small town.

As for the national election, consider voting Collapsitarian -or at least tell that to the pollsters.
