Comedy and Tragedy in Capital City

Anyone else sick and tired of hearing about the “Fiscal Cliff?” It’s billed as high drama and potential tragedy, but really is nothing more than low comedy. We are supposed to get all worked up about this. There’s something for everyone. Conservatives lament defense cuts. Liberals cry about weakening the social safety net.

Bull.

The White House and Congress built the cliff. It didn’t exist until they constructed it. It’s like some clown pulling out a revolver and threatening to shoot himself in the foot. “One false move and the clown gets it!”

Please, give me a break.

We’ve even seen this same show before with the so called “Debt Ceiling.” That was another made up crisis. Our debt keeps getting bigger and bigger, but the debt ceiling language has gone away. That was last year’s show.

This year’s model is “Fiscal Cliff!” Boo! It will sneak up and get you in the dark. Fear this!

Real problems are not in vogue at all. Neither Republicans nor Democrats talked about serious issues. It’s impolite to point to the gorilla in the living room. You know, the Emperor really has no clothes.

I’m not going to even bother to point out what our real problems are. If you are even half awake, you’ve got a clue. If you haven’t noticed anything major wrong . . . well, you can go worry about the fiscal cliff.

  1. Why worry about going over it.... We already have. We're just too mesmerized by the dog and pony shows they keep presenting to us to see things for what they truly are.

    1. And yes, then there are the real issues out there. Lots of folks suffering and getting desperate.

  2. I would laugh, but it's too sad. You called it as it is.

  3. You really did a good post today. You hit the nail on the head. Now we need to hit a few politicians on the head. . .

  4. I can certainly understand your perspective. Quite frankly, I don't give a damn what they do about debt or spending, our last real chance to do anything about that went away when Romney was nominated. But I want them to get taxes settled NOW goshdarnit!!!! This is the sort of thing that makes for a very difficult season for a tax professional. Since it takes about 8 weeks to program the changes into the IRS computers, this is really pushing it.

Okay, I know, people with real jobs don't really care about my rant. I just hope no one is counting on getting a timely refund from the government in 2013.

    1. John, I don't even have to file.

You would think that on something as important as taxes they'd be ahead of the curve, but no.

  5. It's all monopoly money anyway. Worthless paper. The real "fiscal cliff" will be reached when enough people wake up and realize it's all smoke and mirrors...

    1. The smoke is getting mighty thin and the mirror is cracked. If you squint you can just make out the man behind the curtain.

  6. I made up my mind to not worry on how it goes down. I'm in no file area. Zero income.
I am getting adept at building my independent infrastructure and solving problems. They, whom ever they are, matter little for me. My resources are legion as I make use of all the stuff that is thrown away. Very little is bought new these days. Work barter takes care of most of that now. Range and mobility are soon to be a reality for me now. A new shelter will be in the works soon...I'm all a wonder on how the earth rover ( house ) will work out. All I have to do now is be inspired to continue. The resolution of my recent health problems allows me to be more optimistic than before. I was down for a good long time. It is good to be back.
