Something should be done

What can we do about a Middle Eastern country that invades its neighbors, promotes radical Islam, and suppresses woman's rights? What should we do about another country that just sold that Middle Eastern nation hundreds of millions of dollars worth of advanced weapons?

The Middle Eastern country in question is Saudi Arabia, of course. It's committing war crimes in Yemen and suppressed democracy in Bahrain. Women are basically their husband's property and aren't even allowed to drive. The royal family supports Wahhabism, a very strict form of Islam in where all non-believers are considered enemies. This is the country that the United States just made a major arms deal with.

Do they sound like our friends? To me they are using us to further their aims and that's all. If any Muslims should be banned, it should be members of the Saudi Royal family and their government officials. Obviously, they exercise undue influence on American politicians.

Something should be done.

Should we do something about that Middle Eastern nation with a secretive advanced nuclear weapon program? You know, Israel?

My point is that the Middle East is a complicated place. Should the United States be involved there at all? How many American lives are any of those places worth? Darn few in my opinion. Any of our efforts there do long range good? Isn't it about time we figure out if there is anything at all in that part of the world worth our trouble?

  1. Precious resources and/or religion. Same reasons any country has ever *fiddled* with another.

    1. Well, we should stay the heck away from religious conflicts. They are the nastiest. Too many true believers.

As for resources, we should look at our options.

  2. A very complicated locale of the world where politics switches back in forth in loyalties. What you wrote above makes a lot of sense - the best move in this game is not to play.

  3. It's all about oil. We could be independent from them if we had more refineries but then you'd have an uprising from the environmentalists.

    1. Eventually we'll have to get off fossil fuels. The sooner the better, as we'll be free from a number of unpleasant entanglements.

  4. Actually , it's all about the Petro Dollar and the fact that t is tied to Saudi oil. Without which our dollar is worthless.
Thus our lips are firmly encased to Arab ass.
Either crash the dollar or bow down.

    1. Like all monetary schemes, the petro dollar will collapse. Looks closer every day.

  6. I think it's about more than oil. Islamic Terrorism is rooted in Iraq and Syria. We can hardly afford to let them construct a Caliphate in a protected zone, from which they can instigate terror attacks on the West.

I think most of us know that the Saudis are not our pals. But they are the mortal enemies of the Iranians. If the Saudis and the Iranians want to kill each other wholesale, I have no problem with it

Israel doesn't represent a threat to the U.S. Thanks to Obama, Iran will soon have nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them. It may well be that the ability of Israel to deploy nuclear weapons will be a Godsend to us.

Traditionally, Israel has done the hard work that has to be done, like the Iraqi reactor. Then the world condemns Israel publicly while coming up privately and saying "thank you, thank you!"

The U.S. is not importing much middle eastern oil right now.

    1. The enemy of our enemy is not necessarily our friend. We should remember that.

We have much closer cultural ties to Israel. That being said, out of all our allies, they are one of the more likely ones to drag us into a greater war.

  7. They are not our friends, never have been, never will be. They use us every chance they get because they can. Like you said, it’s “complicated” and getting very dangerous for us.
