Maine coast road trip

On the spur of the moment, my lovely wife and I decided to drop in on my daughter and her family who were camping on the coast of the coast of Maine. We snagged another granddaughter along the way and took her with us. The kids had a great time together.

Here's the veggie van.

It doesn't take much planning for a camping trip when the van is always ready to bug out for action.

This is looking down the bay from Chewonki Campground in Wiscasset Maine.

My daughter and son-in-law took my new inflatable kayak for a salt water test. They approve. It gets high marks for stability.

With no reservations, we happened to get the site right next to my daughter. It was one of the few still open. Sometimes luck is on my side. Of course, any day camping on the ocean is a good day.

  1. Do you make any effort to level the van when you camp?

    1. Looks worse than it is in the photo. I like to sleep with my head elevated, so I park to make that happen.

    2. Yeah, I learned a long time ago how camera angle can distort things.

    1. Thanks. Rarely see powerboats in this bay. Kayaks, canoes, and sailboats mostly.

  3. My son and his family just got back from visiting friends in Cushing. They had a wonderful time and were amazed at the beauty in Maine. Didn't see any moose, though.

    1. I've had moose in yard here in NH. A lot of my friends live in Maine. Of course, where I live in Northern NH, Maine and Vt are both 35 minute drives.

  4. Maine is beautiful this time of year. Spent six months on Hurricane Island some years back. It's off the coast from Rockland.

    1. Hope they were the warmer six months. Beautiful but bleak in the winter.

  7. Some pics of the veggie van interior would be cool. I'm curious(nosey) how you have it set up.
