Waiting for the train crash

Anyone else waiting to see what kind of train crash will come out of D.C. these days? Some people have told me that they almost want the US to go into default just to see what will happen. Its like a disaster film where we've lost interest in the heroes and bad guys and want to see things blow up.

Why not? It's not like the folks in D. C. care about people. It's not like they care about the responsibilities of their office or the good of the nation. They don't seem to treat this seriously so why should anyone else.

Maybe everyone just wants to see the world burn?

Let's carry the train metaphor on a bit. There are those who want to crash the train of state to destroy the conductor. The fireman's not on the job, the brakeman's not on the brakes, and the conductor is collecting fares at random. In the mean time a handful of passengers are jumping out the back. We all suspect this wont end well.

Train crash? Disaster film? Horror movie?

You know what I think? Perhaps, just perhaps, people want to see things totally collapse as they feel it's the only way to throw all the bastards out. They think the system is so broken it can't be fixed. On my bad days, I fear they may be right.

. . . on my bad days.

  2. I believe that we will know whether the republicans are interested in re-election or their childrens future by whether they cave in to business as usual, or call Obama's bluff and let things crash, so we at least stand a chance of things getting straightened out. Of course Obama will declare martial law, but he's itching to do that anyway, that's why he's deliberately trying to provoke a rebellion.

    1. There's so many ways for this to shake out that I can't even give a good guess.

  3. I hate to see Obama win, but, many more of us stand to lose if an agreement isn't reached. Although my wife and I don't use my social security payments as part of our budget I'd hate to lose the savings. This is a very dangerous time in the history of our nation. If, and it's a big if, the pResident indeed declares martial law - people will die. Bet on it.

    1. It always seems so tragic to me when people die over politics and money.

Weird times ahead, if nothing else.

  4. I think you are right. It could be the worst thing for the world and it could be the best thing for the world.
One thing is for sure. The great train crash will happen someday. Will it be Thursday...

    1. Best? Worse? Who can say? Probably will depend on who and what you are.

  5. If you can really get the size of the debt in your mind, it is hard as it is such a mind blowing number, you might conclude that it doesn't matter which big spending party is in power. There is little hope for the dollar, no matter if the country crashes, the dollar has to crash, there is no way to get out of it other than massive taxes or massive inflation.

    1. Currencies have crashed before without taking down the country. It never was the world reserve currency before though.
