Death in Haiti

Right now Haiti is burning. It’s barely in the news, so here’s a link. Things are bad. Countries are evacuating their people. It’s a huge humanitarian crisis.

Haiti is a lot closer to the United States than Venezuela, so why haven’t we heard much of anything about it? Could it be because they have no oil?

There’s a retired doctor who lives not that far from me. He delivered my babies. One of his daughters and one of my daughters are very close friends. They are marvelous people. This doctor fled one step ahead of the Haitian military and the Tonton Macoutes.

If I didn’t have a personal connection to the Haitian people I probably wouldn’t know or care what was was happening there either. However, it’s turning out to be another crisis right next door. Don’t be surprised when more leaky boats show up off the coast of Miami.

  1. I certainly feel for those folks. I would hate to live with all that death and destruction.

    1. That country never seems to get a break. Then again, the world never forgave them for having the planet's only successful slave revolt.

  2. Looks like all that Clinton Money supposedly invested there has done nothing for stability and a better way of life. It's hard to imagine living the way they do and with no hope in sight.

  3. Mike, I read that the Clinton money built only THREE houses (some say six). The rest went in the Clinton's pockets.

  4. Yes, ask him about certain past president(s) and child trafficking.. In particular Laura Silsby and that episode :( Haiti has been used for so much that would sicken even the hardiest of us. My nephew was one of the service men who helped with the earthquake. As he was connected to a ship he didn't go too far inland. It was horrible he said. But I believe our government will help make Haiti a better place in the very near future. And remember, there is a UN headquarters there...How in God's name could they not have made Haiti better????? Maybe because they might be part of the....

    1. There's a lot of horrors that happen there. Doesn't help that there's such a long history of presidents using their position to rob the treasury. It's a darn shame as they are a wonderful people.
