Ammo Update

Over the weekend I got to talk with two close friends who work in the firearms industry. They have many years of experience and both have worked for different companies over the years. The US firearms industry is not that big a club. A lot of the professional people know each other. My friends are in contact with a lot of people.

I figured these would be the ones to talk to about ammo shortages. In short, they have no solid answers.

Here’s what I could get from them. A certain percentage of the shortage is real. Part of the shortage is a result of the same type of thinking that caused toilet paper shortages. When people see it on the shelves, they buy it all. However, my friends would not even guess the percentages.

There are a lot of rumors out there, but real hard numbers and solid answers are in short supply. Your guess is a good as mine.

  1. Well it isn't me causing it. Seeing how that and most other things were stocked way before all these shortages started happening. No real need to have any more.
Must be those out there that think , you can never have too much...

    1. I'm not buying any either. Good thing I stocked up before the craziness. I was just offered stupid money for a box of 12 gauge birdshot for goodness sakes.

    1. Pay the price -and be first in line. When you can't find 12 gauge birdshot locally something is wrong. Small game season is just around the corner.

    2. key word-locally. you have already noted supply chain issues. why would they not affect ammo too? heck, almost no class of supply is available locally in any degree of variety or quantity. i have to hunt around for a decent pair of underwear, for crying out loud, lol.

  3. You know there are people out there who want ten thousand rounds for every gun in the house. They don't seem to understand that it is just not reasonable to believe one guy is gonna do that much shooting. They are as clear thinking as the people who want cases of toilet paper.
    Full disclosure
I've been buying TP,paper towels and Kleenex in quantities for many years.

    1. I don't plan on defense shooting at all. If it comes to that, something has gone wrong. Last point of defense.
