Apple toys

Anyone else think it's ironic that Apple has made a watch? Thanks in large part to smart phones we no longer need a watch to tell the time.

Yes, the Apple watch does much more than tell the time. So what? I can't think of one really burning need it satisfies -unless one counts the need to have the latest Apple toy.

Early technology adopters pay a huge price for being first in line. I'm usually way back in the pack. That way by the time I get into something it has proven its value, the bugs are worked out, and the price has come down. I was an early adopter of solar electric technology, but it was the price of freedom and independence. Those old solar panels are still cranking out power too.

Most electronic gadgets plummet in value very quickly. Ever get excited about 10 year old electronics? Think about how worthless a 10 year old Apple watch will be. Anyone still enjoying their LISA computer? Didn't think so.

There is a limited market in old electronics, but it's a nostalgia market. They aren't so much selling equipment as they are selling memories. However, for every person who has fond memories of their old gameboy there are piles of electronic junk best forgotten.

The Apple watch may catch on. I assume the company has done plenty of market research. Who knows, maybe in the future it will be useful and the price will be right. That future isn't here yet, in my opinion. I've got a lot of other more pressing needs than a new wrist toy.

  1. Six on buying a car ask your mechanic when you get back home. Give him your want list and see if he can think of a model new or old that fits, is economical to drive and parts are available. The 82 Mitsubishi MITIE Max was the best small truck.

    1. My mechanic has been very good on telling me what NOT to buy. I think I'll pick his brain some more I had a little Mazda pickup and that was an amazing truck. Spent very little money on it.

  2. Dick Tracy, paging Dick Tracy to the white rotary phone in the lobby.

I finally broke down and got one of those new fangled Smart phones.
Now I know why they call them that.
Made me look like an idiot trying to figure out how to answer the damn thing.
No joke, I couldn't answer the phone when it rang, had to have my kid show me what I was doing wrong!

    1. People have been known to walk into traffic, off cliffs and into walls. Talk about no situational awareness.

  5. The head fellow of apple Mr. Cook, wants more and more money! Steve Jobs was almost the same way, preaching to buy phones that he said everyone would have to have! I only wish I had in invested in Apple when my little one was a little one, would not be working like hell in retirement..We don't even own a cell phone and people look at me like I am some kind of alien, well we paid for a cell phone for our only child for one full year when she just graduated from college she needed it for her job, it was about $2,400.00 worth of bills wish I would have put it in a fund or something she would be rich now, she cannot live without her blackberry and many devices and apple computer..What is this world coming to a lot of crap I say..Oh, we have our old Hyundai which has about 250,000 miles in the garage still works, my hubs takes it out for a spin, donating it to the community college for someone to get a nice car for free that is desperate for transportation..Our only had it for one month in Seattle no one told her for the population it is the number 1 city for it's size of car thefts they nearly got away with it, but her boyfriend at the time worked for the police and jumped on the hood and the fellow stopped and ran off, it came home immediately, can you imagine the car had nearly 250,000 miles on it and someone wanted to jack it and take it..so it stays put in the garage for the college for a family to get it when they completely redo it and give it to them..That's what I think of cars, only for people who truly need it, I walk, bike and take the bus!

  6. My son has a lot of solar panels, batteries, and a generator at his rabbit ranch on the back of my property. If the power goes out and I need electric, I move to the RV and run the generator.
