Sigh of Relief

I went and done it. I closed out my Facebook account. There are various reasons. However, one of the big ones is that social media makes people depressed. Who wants that kind of stress?

So what was the straw that broke the camel’s back? My lovely wife was off visiting family in California for most of August. She had limited access to Facebook. After she got home and logged on, she found plenty of things to get upset about. There’s a lot of hate and stupidity on social media.

If people need to get hold of me, they’ll have to find some other way. If I’m not important enough for them to contact me directly -well, then it is what it is.

So my decision was a form of mental health maintenance. That fact that I’m suddenly flying a little more under the radar is just an added bonus.

  1. I dropped off of FB over six months ago...but I do check my wife's FB on her phone once a day. FB is a tremendous time waster.

    1. It not only is a huge time sink, it stirs up a lot of negative emotions.

  2. My presence on book face lasted about 15 minutes. Seen right off it would be harmful. Took several months to figure out how to get completely away from it. Never missed it. You will be better off.

    1. It's tough in that almost everyone I know is on it. However, one of my friends who isn't is one of the few who actually comes over to visit on a regular basis. That says something, I think.

  3. My notebook crashed and I don't foresee the funds to replace it...so I'll likely not be on any social media much either.Have to go back to my clunky old desktop for this.
    That's why I don't want a smart phone...you cannot escape !

    1. Well, I'm glad you can come on by. I lucked out an a friend gave me a couple of computers recently. My budget has been pretty tight lately.

It seems like FB is consuming the planet sometimes. Still expect it to go the way of Myspace one day.
