Big news that isn't and missing news

So Lance Armstrong confessed to Oprah that he used performance enhancing drugs. Big woop. I really don't care. Why does the news people think this is big news?

It isn't. It's what they have instead of news. All the major news outlets have reduced or even eliminated their investigative reporting. It's expensive and there's no money in in. Not only that, it can annoy advertisers and they don't want to do that.

Right now news organizations are coasting along on reputation. There are enough people who still think they are a solid source of news, so they tune in to be informed. It's like going to a dry well and never noticing the bucket keeps coming up empty.

If the United States was a functioning democracy it would be a problem. A democracy needs educated and well informed citizens to make wise decisions. Instead, the corporate masters make all the major decisions, so the citizen has little input.

The news division is just another entertainment branch of the network. They treat it that way with celebrity “newscasters” and infotainment.

Once in a while something so big happens that it can't be ignored. It's pretty funny to watch entertainers pretend to be actual news people. They lack the tools for the job.

It's a sad thing when a news story gets more professional coverage from Russia Today or Al Jazeera.

  1. I get most of my news from the conservative blogs. At least most of them are prejudiced in the same direction that I am. ;-)

    1. I make a point of reading people I don't agree with. Nobody can be all wrong all the time. :)

  4. Sixbears I definitely agree with you. We tossed our tv when the news spent more time on Angela Jolie and Brad Pitt and actual newsworthy items. Waste of electricity.

  5. I used to watch BBC America until it went to a different channel but didn't tell the public which one. I don't watch the "news" because of what you have written. I don't give a rat's patootie what Tom Cruise or Ms. Jolie are up to. And I'm tired of hearing about Lindsay Lohan. Toss her in jail for crying out loud and leave it alone.

    1. Sad thing is, a fair number of people want real news. Thanks to the web, we can search it out.

  6. I guess my hubbs and me were the last to really believe Lance Armstrong did not take the drugs. Now they say Tiger Woods wants to re-marry the mother of his two children, all a bunch of crap I say. I only listen to one news show for the big breaking news, I want to be informed if another earth shaking news story hits, we live close to Mt. St. Helens here in Washington state, I knew something was amiss from a station that only carried washington temperatures and geography..they said it was gonna blow way before the news tv, and we believed them, too bad the people camping and this elderly fellow who ran a huge lodge did not believe them, the Governor tried to get the fellow to go he said at 85 he was not going anywhere even his elderly dog perished oh, my living God, many died including a reporter for our local newspaper young fellow just married to another reporter and the geologist who predicted the whole thing..Now there is a visitor center with his name on it the Geologist, the reporter there are rooms with his name on it..It was a horrible day, thought the end of the world was near, dark, and the dust, sand and crap that that Mt. St. Helens spewed oh, my God..Now the news is not really the news only a bunch of entertainment and ads to sell crap no one really wants..It is a sad state of affairs. love your blog, we would love to be a on a boat in the heat of florida taking a spin around a nice area. enjoy!

    1. Thank you. Too bad about the people who died in the eruption. We really have to keep our ears and eyes open for things like that.

  7. The news programs are a farce. They do report local stuff, but beyond that, they only scratch he surface.
