What is it with dental offices? They were perfectly willing to X-ray all my lovely wife's teeth for free, but they would not pull one tooth? Instead they offered a $1,600 treatment plan. This tooth has been treated and “saved” many times over the years. My lovely wife is pretty sure it's ready to go. It's her mouth, she should know. There isn't a lot of original tooth left.
They also had no problem with her walking out of the office in pain.
No wonder people get frustrated and pull their own darn teeth.
I did get recommendations from some of the local people. We'll call a few of them in the morning.
Then there's my dad's neighbor who gave up and flew from Florida to her home state of Connecticut for dental treatment. It was cheaper than having it done in Florida -including the cost of air fare.
In fact, one lady flies down to Costa Rica for her dental work. They have all the modern tools and techniques at a fraction of the cost.
Something is very broken with the system.

It's called "GREED."
ReplyDeleteWe definitely ran into some of that.
DeleteI believe that doctors and dentists work for us since we are the ones paying for their services. That makes us the boss. Don't forget that!! And make sure they understand that upfront.
ReplyDeleteSome just don't get it. Wish us luck on today's search.
DeleteHopefully she can find a dentist who can fix it for her today. Nothing worse than a toothache to ruin your day.
ReplyDeleteThis has gone on way too long.
DeleteLike Gorges said, It's greed and fear of litigation. My Dentist costs are far more than going to my Doctor. I guess the Dentist has the gun to your head as you're in pain and most people will pay anything to get rid of it. The other problem is the dental insurance. People who have it don't care what a procedure costs as long as their premium stays low and that wrecks it for the rest of us who has no insurance.
ReplyDeleteDental bills have been a huge burden over the years. It's one of those things that needs to be done right away as the pain only gets worse.
DeleteI feel your pain...no pun intended. I had to pay over $3000.00 for my grandson last year. He won't sit still for dental work and required anesthesia, Had to have one pulled that was crowding his mouth.. Root canals and caps. These were all baby teeth that will fall out in a few years. What a racket but he was in pain so what do you do?. Yes...Florida is a very greedy state.
ReplyDeleteYou done good, that's what. Poor kid. Yeah, it's a racket.
DeleteYep, down here along the Texas / Mexico border, plenty of people I know cross to get less expensive dental care, even if they decide to bypass insurance. For the routine stuff, much often less expensive.
ReplyDeletePretty sad when you think about it.
DeleteWhy is it Drs. and Dentists won't believe patients? I'd definitely find someone who will listen to her.
ReplyDeleteWe finally did.
DeleteDentists also know they have a monopoly.
ReplyDeleteThey worship the god of money and their creed is greed...
Definitely saw some of that in play.
DeleteBeen waiting 3 weeks to see an orthopedic surgeon for my broken heel. Spend hours every day on the phone trying to get people to do their jobs, and doing a lot of it for them. Yes, the system is very broken, and only gonna get worse...
ReplyDeleteStill waiting? When you do get someone, the first they are going to say is: why didn't you get this fixed right off?
DeleteGood luck!
I hate dentists. We have insurance and still pay an arm and leg for service. I had to go for a routine cleaning, and was told one tooth was bad and needed to be not filled but built up for a crown. The build up process $200.00 out of my pocket , and the crown another $300.00 out of my pocket. Now this tooth never bothered me on bit, so how do I know their telling the truth? You don't, that's what bothers me.
ReplyDeleteNow imagine not having any insurance at all. They have no problem doing the most expensive stuff, even if there are cheaper options.
