How Long?

One of the big questions about this quarantine is how long is it going to last? The President just extended the shutdown for another month. What makes you think that will be the end of it? Hope you hadn’t made any big Easter plans.

Personally, I’m supposed to go to a convention in Maine in June. That looks doubtful. Even if restrictions are lifted and the convention takes place, I probably won’t go. Being in a high risk group, it’s just not worth taking any chances. Our family also has reservations for camping on the coast of Maine in July. Not holding my breath on that one either.

Remember, every estimate from the government has been changed for the worse. That’s something to ponder when official estimates now say between 100,000 and 200,000 dead. That’s a best case outcome. There are computer models that predict ten times that. Scary thoughts.

When I see things like field hospitals being set up in Central Park it sends chills down my spine. Tales of civil unrest in European countries give me pause. Their situation is just a few weeks ahead of us. Will we have problems with violence here too? Bullets are still flying off the shelves.

Not quite there yet.

    1. I'm not that much of a fatalist. Still think our free will has a lot to do with it.

  2. The new cases everywhere except NYC are trending down, as are deaths.

This is the reason for the slow-down. To let things get to the point where all the badness starts trending down.

Be careful of who you listen to. An ER doctor in NYC or Seattle or Portland or New Orleans? It will seem like the end of the world.

Doc-in-a-box in Chiefland, FL? What Corona-virus?

Places that have a lot of NYC transients, like the North Miami Area? Lots of cases. Bradford County, where NYC people never go? No cases.

    1. We really don't know what's going on in the hinterland as we have very little testing going on. I'm going to keep listening to folks in the hot zones. There's no reason for this not to be spreading across the country.

  3. Governor Blackface here in Virginia just today extended the lockdown to June 10th. This thing is apparently going to drag out. I’m also at high risk and the wife is at super high risk, so we’re right there with you in being super cautious. With the exception of grocery runs to extend our supplies in case things just flat break down, we are at home 100%. Oh, on the groceries, we pay the fee to have them brought out to the car to us so that we don’t have to go inside.

Hang in there and dig in for the long haul. Other than family, no one is going to look out for you better than you!

    1. I know that feeling very well. Can't wait for the weather to warm up here so I can harvest some wild edibles.

  5. I'll be sad if we have to cancel July plans. But, better safe than sorry. Tried to talk some sense into Jokers who moved the city caution tape so they could play basketball. Ended up calling them idiots (may have thrown an f-bomb in there) and they answered "I know you are!" I walked home frustrated. Ugh.

    1. Show a little sympathy for the dying.

Okay, that was harsh. . . but maybe not wrong.

  6. I will be staying home after the all clear is given. All those people who have cabin fever will be out in droves. No thank you. Get it out of their system and then I will venture out!

    1. My thinking exactly. You don't want to be the first ones to poke your head out of the hole.
