After two weeks, then what?

I’m thinking ahead to what I’m going to do come Friday. That’ll be the end of our two week self-isolation. So far it looks like we haven’t brought anything north with us. By self-isolating we were taking precautions for other people’s safety.

By Friday, I thought it might be okay to make a run to the grocery store. Now I’m not so sure. It appears that people are being really casual about social distancing. There are those who are taking this seriously, but too many aren’t.

My lungs already suffered damage from my firefighter days. It took years of work to build my health back to the point where I had some sort of quality of life. This virus could undo years of work and could possibly kill me. That’s the reality of being in a high risk group.

There are some other factors to consider. I don’t have any health insurance. I’m told the local hospital has only four ventilators. What do think the odds are that I’d get one before someone younger and insured?

It’s starting to look like the smart move would be to stay very isolated. Conditions are changing almost by the hour. By Friday, it could be a whole different world so I’ll have to make my decisions with the best and most recent information.

Stay safe out there.

  1. I believe I'd stay holed up as long as possible. If need be, maybe a friend or neighbor could bring you a few things.

    1. I think that's pretty much what I'm going to do.

  2. Well, you still need to stay in quarantine until it's 14 days from the last person who tested positive in your area. Not for you having the virus but for getting it from someone else already infected. I'm sure that you have heard that some "experts" say it could be 21 days or more that a person is contagious.
Bummer that your winter travel was cut short but mine this summer is also gone. Bummer.

    1. Glad I made it back. No telling when domestic travel will be shut down. I might just have to be isolated for many months.

  3. Got a face maskes? If not and your wife sews have her make a couple. The advice from the officials with Stillwater, OK Medical Center says to be sure and make them 4 layers thick. Lots of you-tube videos out there on how to make them. Plus, warming the air before you breathe it in will help your lungs.

  4. The mess sure is evolving quickly. In your situation, it's time to batten down the hatches. I'm not venturing far either.
    Good luck all...

    1. My lovely wife reminded me of another project I thought I'd get to. I guess she wants to keep me from being bored during this lockdown.

  5. Just be careful. Times like this are like that song...

You can't always get what you want, but if you try real hard, you'll get what you need.

Since you are pretty much the poster-boy for potential Novel Wuhan Communist China Corona Virus 2019, keep your hands clean when you go out. When you get back, clothes go in the wash and so do you.

If you have access to a doctor or medical person for questions, ask them if your area is high risk. If so, use a facemask. If not, maybe use a facemask.

Get what you need, get out, hunker down.

Good luck and keep your toilet paper and powder dry.

    1. My community sources lead me to believe things are much worse locally than almost anyone realizes. We shall see.

  6. I consider all to be carriers at this point.
The zoo has closed to the public now. So Kathy's risk factor has gone down somewhat. All the workers are maintaining the distance practice and must be masked and gloves when dealing with the critters.
The zoo board met and approved to continue payroll for the next sixty days. That's about $50k per day ! With nothing coming in the front gates ! Deep, deep pockets...and this place is privately held. No public funds.
Dunno what happens if the quarantine applies to all.
They closed all the beaches, bars and restaurants statewide now.
Going to pick up a couple young pullets from another prepper friend today.
I braved the farm store yesterday and scored the last two bags of scratch and cracked corn . So we're good for eggs , for the next six months.
Stay safe, Squirt say's hi to Brownie...

    1. I think that's the way to approach the situation. Everyone is a potential carrier. Glad you guys have some income for at least another 60 days.

      Brownie says hi back.
