The Collapse

Recently I was asked by someone when I expected the collapse to happen.

Well that’s not a common question from most people. To put it into context I just happen to be storing a good amount of survival food for her husband. Their current space lacks the room but they are looking for something bigger.

I both expect and don’t expect a collapse. It all depends on what you want to define as a collapse. Whole countries collapse, yet most of their people continue on. On any given day you can find areas of the planet going through their own local apocalypse. A day’s journey away and everything can be fine.

Being prepared for natural and man made disasters is just prudent.

So how about the whole planet experiencing a collapse? That could certainly happen. One day it will. I’m just hoping it’s millions of years in the future when the sun starts to burn out.

There are definitely things that could set civilization back a long ways. We’ve come very close to strategic nuclear war and that would have been a collapse by anyone’s measurement. So far, we’ve dodged that one. Personally, in spite of everything going on in the world right now, I think we are further away from that possibility. At least we are less likely to do the unthinkable by accident.

What do you do? The average person has very little influence on things like global disasters. What we do have is the ability to plan for the small collapses. That’s where things like stored food, water, and other supplies make a difference. It also helps to know when you should be down the road when an local apocalypse is about to happen.

  1. I think you are being overly optimistic.
When you corner a rabid dog , expect them to use all means within their arsenal.
Many times in past history capitalism has corned and forced the wild beasts into lashing out.
    Predictable and inevitable.
Yet we continue as if this isn't so.

    1. I might be too optimistic. My thoughts on things vary from time to time.

  2. Provoking someone into a corner and prodding more seems a very American thing. Ask Japan about that.

But today the results can be far more life changing for an entire country or even the planet than some burning battleships.

Collapse is a very general term. The folks currently displaced and soon to find NEVER going back to their "Normal Lives" in the chemical contaminated area of that Ohio train derailment have had their lives collapse. Some of those chemicals are like the WW1 chemical weapons that to this day haunt battlefields in France.

How to prepare for that? Trusted friends that will share their homes with you until you can get back on your feet.

Economic collapse? It's said it's a recession if somebody you don't know is homeless due to loss of a GOOD PAYING Job (Greeter at Wal-Mart isn't a good job).

But it's a Depression IF YOU are the soul looking for a Wal-Mart greeter job now.

How to prepare for that? Years of living below your means so you have a multi-year cash cushion. Keeping your skills and contacts current so you have something to rebuild with. Also, the most important skillset Work Ethic.

I'm not too proud to do the greeter job while searching for better.

When a country debases its currency (Rome by making the silver denarii less % silver every cycle until a base metal coin with silver wash on it) long enough their Rubber Checks stop being honored and as Hemmingway said in the Sun also rises.

"How did you go broke? Slowly at first then all at once".

Did you notice at Davos that OPEC+ (House of Saud+) has revoked the Kissinger Petrodollar? Many "acceptable" fiat moneys and grams of gold accepted for their oil.

Neocon's think because Putin hasn't nuked us yet over the blowing up of a critical bridge, shelling his nuclear weapons bases with HMAIRS and such HE will Never Use them.

But you and I cannot do anything about that. The anti-war protests of the 70's is Outlawed by Patriot Act and such. 1st Amendment Freedom of Speech except when it goes against the Narrative.

Funny how a Constitutional RIGHT becomes conditional.

Protect your family, the clowns of the District of Criminals are a greater threat than the Russians.

They seem to be the Adults in the room as I've not noticed THEM launching long range attacks on America, yet.

    1. We are at war with Russia. On the bright side we are doing it on the cheap with second rate surplus equipment and devalued dollars -and no US ground troops. On the down side: we are at war with Russia.

The thing about war: it only takes one side to start one.

    2. One thing about war is nobody gets into one thinking that they will lose.

Second thing about war is Murphys Law and Human arrogance, pride and general pig headed nature often overrules THE PLAN.

  3. I don't expect a collapse. I do rather expect a change in politics that will lead the Few to take even more advantage of the many. We won't have a collapse, we will have a transition into an Authoritarian atmosphere, which may resemble a collapse. First thing that happens is good people in general no longer trust one another. The spread of misinformation, and disinformation becomes a tool to control and disassociate people with. That's when you have that Tiger in the corner effect. The good people attack out of fear trying to remain in control of their own. This isn't a collapse, yet. It is the start of Anarchy. That's when the "Big Brother" takes control and forces the illusion of a collapse. This could be the result of a War, a Catastrophe, or many other forms of Ooops. A Total collapse assumes everything no longer works. I doubt that will happen.

    1. Often "collapse" is a slow grind where things get crappier and crappier. People adapt over time, but eventually it can get to a breaking point.
